Villa Olifants is a boutique bed & breakfast in Strand, South Africa. With two bungalows available for rental, we are happy to host your holiday by the noble False Bay. Known for both its festive atmosphere as well as the 5 km stretch of white sand lining its coast, Strand is also a short drive from several regions within South Africa’s famed wine country.
The fruits of South Africa’s natural beauty can also be accessed by foot: Villa Oilfants is an easy 10 min walk from the coastline. Enjoy everything that the Western Cape has to offer from the comfort of our luxurious guest bungalows.
The Owner
Born and raised between South Africa and Germany, Evelyn Margaret Liesbeth Nawrath dreamed for years of opening a bed & breakfast as an expression for her love of cooking, gardening and people.
At the age of five Evelyn and her family embarked on a tour from South Africa across
13 countries in two iconic Volkswagen Kombis. The family travelled almost 19,000 km
from their home in South Africa to a small village south of Hamburg. It was on this
journey that Evelyn’s passion for travelling first blossomed, and it is with great
pleasure that she is able to share the beauty of South Africa with you.
Evelyn will be on hand to greet you upon your arrival, and she can be found working
in the garden or in the kitchen preparing her renowned marmalades, chutneys and other treats, should you have any questions during your stay. The consummate host, Evelyn
is more than happy to give guided tours and arrange off-site activities as needed.
The City
Taking its name from the Afrikaans word for beach, Strand is around 50 kilometres southeast of Cape Town. This bustling seaside town is lined by a 5 km-long white
sand beach along the warm waters of the False Bay.
Strand was established as a fishing village and resort town, and the peaceful coastlines
still offer a variety of watersports, running paths and a plentiful selection of cafes, restaurants and boutiques. Family-friendly by design, Strand is home to an Olympic-
sized swimming pool, a mini-golf course and, of course, beautiful beaches to relax upon.
The Area
Tucked away behind the Cape Hangklip peninsula in the Western Cape of South Africa, the False Bay is known for its pristine water and warm, dry summers.
The sprawling Hottentots Holland Mountains between Macassar and Gordon’s Bay roll high and majestic above Strand.
Villa Olifants is close to the popular Garden Route drive that takes visitors across a beautiful and varied set of climate zones, landscapes and topographies. Likewise, the world-famous sardine run in late autumn / early winter (southern hemisphere seasons) brings a rush of new wildlife to the area when billions of sardines spawn in the cool waters of the Agulhas Bank. Visit between May and July to catch a glimpse of the rushing fish and celebrate the local biodiversity.
